Marble Quarry

Why are there pits and cracks in the stone?

Granite is a product of nature and as such, subject to variation in shade, color and grain structure. Pitting and veining are natural occurrences in stone and the veining may be mistaken for cracks. Some granites exhibit these characteristics more than others. It is not possible to guarantee that all color, markings, or that every characteristic of the pieces will be uniformly present in every piece of granite even of similar type and variety.

Will there be seams on the countertops?

Most countertops will have seams. A typical slab of granite is approximately 96" x 55". Any run of granite over that dimension will have to be seamed.

Is the stone porous?

Yes, if it's not sealed. However, the granite is impregnated with a sealer at installation.

Do you warranty the granite after installation?

Marble & Granite Works guarantees our installation. Our installers have had many years of experience in the stone industry. At the time of installation the customer inspects the job and signs off on the job upon completion. Our company has no control of the final use and environment in which our product will be used. Therefore, we disallow any claims of product misrepresentation. Since we make no claims, the end user, purchaser or specifier assumes all responsibility for the condition of the product and its performance once ownership has passed from our company.

How long will it take to get my countertops installed?

If your cabinets are in place, we will call within approximately 5 business days ,from a signed proposal, to set up a template date. Installation will be within 4 to 6 weeks from the date of template. This is Marble & Granite Works policy. We strive to make every effort to have the countertops installed as soon as possible.
However, if your cabinets are on order and not installed at the time of your purchase, your order will be put into a HOLD status until the cabinets are in place. Our "time-clock" as described above, begins ONLY from the time the cabinets are installed and NOT from the date of purchase.

What about samples?

Samples provided may vary slightly from the material delivered. However, our show room is one-of-a-kind in the Central Ohio area. We welcome you to view the slabs in our warehouse. We also have several sample available for you to select from and take with you to help in your selection process.

More Granite Facts

  • A polished granite slab is resistant to staining and scratching. A polished granite surface can amazingly be scratched only by another piece of granite or a diamond.
  • Granite is practical; it is the second hardest naturally occurring material in the world and is therefore a popular choice for kitchen and commercial counters.
  • Granite's density is 17 lbs to 25 lbs per square foot for a 3cm slab, which results in an extremely low absorption rate (0.04%), offering a surface that is extremely resistant to staining.
  • Although granite is naturally stain resistant, preventative maintenance of stone does require sealing with an impregnating sealer, which is done as the final step at installation.
  • Granite's compressive strength of 19,000 psi makes it virtually indestructible under everyday use. Its strength also allows for cantilevered areas on bar and island tops with up to 6" unsupported. Raised bar tops however, do require supports.
  • Granite slabs are available in stock thickness of 2cm (3/4") and 3cm (1 1/4"). Granite slabs on average are 8' x 5'.
  • Granite countertops are typically adhered to the base cabinets using 100% silicone caulking. This product allows for expansion and contraction of both the countertops and the base cabinets.
